What Even Is This "AI Age" Thing?

How did we get here?

Remember back when a phone was just phone, preset with simple things to do, now, your phone probably knows more about your daily routine and what is going on your life.

That's what we're talking about when we say we're in the "AI Age": this is a period when computers won’t just be following simple instructions anymore.

They're learning, creating, and sometimes surprising us with how well smart they can be.

Think about it: you can now ask your phone "Hey, write me a birthday message for my girlfriend that sounds like I wrote it" and it does. Five years ago, that would have seemed like magic. Today, AI can do more than write.

How Did We Get Here So Fast?

Let's rewind a bit. For decades, computers were like really fast but very dumb in a way. They could do math lightning-fast, but ask them to recognize a cat in a photo? That was not possible (I wonder how they went to the moon).

But something changed in the 2010s. Suddenly, we had:

  • Way more computers connected to the internet

  • We could upload photos, videos, and text online

  • Computer chips that could handle massive amounts of data and they are improving each day

  • And of course the learning curve for computers grew exponentially

Think of it like teaching a child to recognize dogs. Instead of describing every possible dog breed, you just show them thousands of dog photos. "See this? This is a dog. This too. And this." Eventually, they get it.

That's basically what happened with computers, except they looked at billions of examples instead of thousands.

The Point of No Return (Perhaps It’s Okay)

Here's the thing that might feel a little unsettling: understand that this is the worst AI can ever be. The AI Age isn't going away. It's not a fancy trend or a bubble.

Why? Because the momentum is insane:

  • Companies are investing billions

  • Smart people worldwide are working on this 24/7

  • The technology keeps getting better, which makes people want it more

  • It's already solving real problems: from helping doctors spot diseases to helping teachers personalize learning

Imagine if someone in 1995 said "Let's stop using the internet, it's moving too fast." Impossible, right? Same thing here. The question isn't whether AI will exist, it's how we'll learn to live with it, work with it, and make sure it serves us rather than the other way around.

What Does This Mean for You (It Might Actually Be Good)

I know what you might be thinking: "Great, computers are getting smarter. What about my job? My privacy? My sanity?"

Those are valid concerns, and we'll get to them. But let's start with what's already working well:

  • Your phone is probably smarter: A lot of AI features are coming into phones, Apple seems to be a bit behind but am sure they will catch up.

  • Learning is more personalized: Platforms like Duolingo or Khan Academy adapt to how you learn, not the other way around.

  • Creative tools are exploding: Artists are using AI to generate ideas, writers to brainstorm, musicians to experiment with sounds they never could have created alone. Just visit labs.google and see the current experimental ideas.

I tend to think that the AI Age won’t be about replacing humans but rather being tools to accelerate life in general. Think of it like giving everyone a really smart, well-read assistant who's available 24/7 and never gets tired, and of course does not have emotions

Welcome to this Publication

Here's what I want you to remember: you're not behind. You're not "not technical enough." You're exactly where you need to be, curious, thoughtful, and ready to understand this new world we're all figuring out together.

The AI Age is about understanding how these tools change our daily lives, our work, and our future.

Whether we like it or not, we're all living in the AI Age now and honestly, it's going to be one hell of a ride.
